Abstract
Designed by classroom teachers who; through repeated experimentation; identified activities that proved successful in developing students' understanding of citizenship; this unit contains 12 lessons that focus on the multicultural dimensions of citizenship. Each lesson includes objectives; procedures; and materials designed to involve students actively in critical thinking and problem solving. Throughout the first 11 lessons; students are introduced to the pluralistic and common democratic heritage of the United States along with knowledge about U.S. citizenship. The last lesson provides an opportunity for students to celebrate the work created during the first 11 lessons. (KM)
