Abstract

This paper presents a defense of the concept of the self contained special classroom for educable mentally retarded students. Included is an examination of the components of the ideal special class and a defense of the concept of such a class against those who purport to attack it on the grounds of empirical evidence. The conclusion drawn does not attempt to support the effectiveness of the special class but rather points out the misconceptions about the research presently available.
