Abstract
The aquation of cis-bromochlorobis(ethylenediamine)chromium(III) cation was studied at 15.3-24.9°C in 0.10 M and 0.010 M HClO4 (μ = 0.10, NaClO4). The reaction was found, by the observation of spectral change and by the ion-exchange chromatography of reaction mixture, to be the release of bromide ion to produce cis-aquachlorobis(ethylenediamine)chromium(III) cation. The observed psuedo-first order rate constant kobs was found to be independent of hydrogen-ion concentration, and kobs = 1.17 × 10-3 sec-1 at 24.9°C. The activation parameters are as follows: ΔH≠ =61.2 ± 3.5 kJ mol-1 and ΔS≠ = -95 ± 11 J K-1 mol-1. © 1980.
