Abstract
The traditional approach to the economics of pollution deals with the special case of damage coming from the per-period flow of the pollutant. It does not consider the general case where the damage comes from the per-period flow and the accumulated stock of the pollutant. This article examines the limitations of the traditional flow approach and then summarizes fundamental advances in the economic theory of stock pollutants using a two-period graphical description. © 1995 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
