Abstract

The application of knowledge-based systems has a great potential providing efficient solutions to complex. engineering design problems. A knowledge-based software tool for part and process design of hot forged components has been developed at the Design and Manufacturing Institute (DMI) at Stevens Institute of Technology. This system describes a modular computerized approach to the design and integration of product design and manufacturing and provides powerful reasoning and decision-making tools for reducing the time between product conception and final production. This paper reports the structure of the current system, and the general forged part and process design approach developed by it.
