Abstract
The treatment of magnesium (Mg) with molten iron to produce ductile iron is discussed. During treatment of molten iron, graphite changes from a flake to a nodule. The methods developed for Mg treatment aim to minimize magnesium losses, maximize and stabilize Mg recovery, and ensure safe and environmental friendly working conditions. The treatment is the key process in producing ductile iron that ensures a predetermined microstructure, and mechanical and engineering properties of casting.
