Abstract
Solid Stick Lubricants provide an efficient method of lubrication for moving components, including the flanged wheels of railroad locomotives. The majority of solid lubricants are made by combining a rigid polymer with the chosen type of lubricant, including, but not limited to, molybdenum, graphite, Teflon, or some other lubricating substance. The rigid-body lubricants are made by combining a commercial soybean oil-based rail curve grease and a solid form structure composed of other materials. The development, testing, and subsequent approval of soy-based lubricants for use by railroads are presented.
