Abstract
The Decision Support Systems (DSS) sub-field of Information Systems research is an emergent discipline. In response to recent challenges, this article examines the progress that has been made to create some consensus about this field of study. The article also examines research needs. The overriding theme is that Decision Support Systems is a viable field of academic study, but that more theory development is needed and that more effort needs to be made to inform practitioners about the findings of DSS empirical research. © 2006 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
