Abstract
A comprehensive framework for high-performance computing education called bootable cluster CD (BCCD) that has several advantages, is discussed. At the core of the BCCD is a bootable image that runs completely off dedicated media and converts any room of Intel or PowerPC-based workstations into a prospective parallel computing environment. The BCCD solves the problems of several solutions allowing the instructors and students to focus on science rather than system administration. The BCCD environment includes several educational programs that visually illustrate aspects of parallelism from parallel and boundary-coupled communication codes. BCCD is a short-term solution to a long-term high-performance computing educational problems.
