Abstract
In this paper, the effects of the transceiver distance on the number of multipath components (MPCs), received power, maximum delay spread, and root mean squared delay spread of intra-vehicle ultra wideband (UWB) propagation channels are investigated through analyzing data obtained from field measurements. Moreover, statistical models are established to describe the behavior of those parameters as a function of distance. Analysis results show that there is a noticeable correlation between the parameters and transceiver distance. However, the average to standard deviation ratio of the measured data reveals that these parameters are very slowly decreasing with distance. This study demonstrates the robustness of intra-vehicle UWB channels against transceiver distance. Therefore, UWB technology is promising to be used for intra-vehicle wireless communication and control systems. © 2013 IEEE.
