Abstract
Sustainability of the environment and the resources that humankind enjoys has become the most important issue in the recent past. Governments all over the world have been enacting laws and taking steps to reduce the degradation of the environment resulting from human activity. This paper presents, from the engineering point of view, the required steps by which sustainability can be built into systems so that it can be practiced by all concerned. In order to do this, it is necessary to incorporate sustainability concepts into all aspects of studies done by manufacturing engineers. A curriculum approach is developed in this paper based on the results obtained from a quick survey of manufacturing engineering and technologists. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2014.
