The Impact of COVID-19 Related Stress on Parenting and Community Engagement in an Iowa Community

Presentation Type

Open Access Poster Presentation

Abstract

Prior research shows that COVID-19 caused significant stress for families, leading to negative family interactions and child maltreatment (Brown et al., 2020; Chen et al., 2022; Kraht, 2021). Social support and community engagement have the potential to mitigate the negative effects of stress on families. The present study investigated how Dubuque families engaged in the community during the pandemic and how COVID-19 related stress predicted parenting practices one year later.
