Abstract
There are a disturbing number of citizens choosing not to vote in America. Possibly the most unsettling part is that our younger adults make up a disproportionate number of these apathetic citizens. For this research project I used undergraduates at the University of Northern Iowa to see if changing issues could increase the willingness of a younger person to vote. Using four imaginary candidates and four imaginary situations, respondents were asked to complete a survey. What I found was that not only did the candidate with the youth oriented issues motivate younger voters but also the candidate with the anti-youth issues seemed to motivate the respondents to a greater extent.
