Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of parenting attitudes and community involvement on children's internalizing and externalizing behaviors. The study also examined the effects of parenting attitudes on children's self-esteem and popularity. One hundred seventy students in the 6th -9th grades completed a self-report inventory assessing their feelings of anxiety, depression, aggression, attention deficit, and self-esteem and a peer-report inventory assessing popularity. Fathers with high authoritarian attitudes had children with low popularity, and parents high in authoritative attitudes had less aggressive boys.
