Project Summary
Faculty and students in the TAPP program will present a Textiles and Apparel Association project linking campus to City of Waterloo through the design of custom printed and constructed bow ties celebrating the invention of the bow tie clip 100 years ago in Waterloo. The bow ties were worn by the Mayor and others at the State of the City Address on April 6th. Residents of Waterloo, the Cedar Valley business community, city partners and neighboring communities were encouraged to attend the speech, titled “Strong Ties-Strong Community,” which was held at 11 a.m. at the Courtyard Marriott at the downtown Cedar Valley TechWorks campus. Presentations, including the bow tie project, recognized the power of collaboration, showcased important projects and previewed future projects. It included special recognition of Waterloo’s 150th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the patent for clip-on bow ties, invented in Waterloo.
