Department of History

The Department of History offers students an opportunity to explore the history and culture of past and contemporary civilizations while developing the research, analytical, and communication skills fundamental to a sound education and satisfying careers. Our department specializes in preparation for teaching and public history, with innovative programs that offer hands-on training through internships and field experiences, and also provides strong foundations for those who wish to do graduate work in History or pursue other professional careers. Our graduate students earn master’s degrees which allow them to enter teaching and public history at advanced levels or move on to doctoral study at institutions with Ph.D. programs.
