Abstract

In American society prospective workers focus much attention upon the selection of a career occupation. The choosing of an appropriate field is becoming increasingly important at an earlier age in a young person's life. The choosing of an occupation may be affected by parents, friends , aptitudes, education or skills required, and the ambition of the prospective employee. The increase or decrease of the number of workers in a given field of employment may affect the desire of prospective employees to enter a given position or level. Today we are witnessing rapid technological changes that have eliminated some jobs, created new ones , and altered others in various ways. No occupation escapes change, though some change more slowly than others. Those persons charged with informing young people about various occupations must be aware of these variations and have available information concerning such changes. These variations in job requirements, skills, and other data necessary for good job placement are essential in assisting the neophyte worker to attain the highest position possible in view of his own initiative, goals, and abilities.
