Phyllis Baker; Terry Pearson Stevens

Information about Lecturer

Phyllis Baker is the special assistant to the vice chancellor of student affairs for academic initiatives at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and president elect of the Midwest Sociological Society. Dr. Baker is the former head of the University of Northern Iowa Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology, director of Women’s and Gender Studies and associate dean in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Professor Baker’s scholarship and teaching frame her concerns about inequalities as well as teaching and learning.

Terry Pearson Stevens is an activist/advocate/artist/ educator born and raised in Waterloo, Ia. She will present “Women Warriors,” a collection of art, music, poetry, and dance that shares a global perspective about women who have often been overlooked for their contributions to the struggle for women’s rights, and who have also been instrumental in fighting for the rights of People of Color and the poor. Terry Pearson Stevens has a B.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology from UNI, has been an instructor in the COE and is a state certified sexual and domestic abuse counselor.
