Abstract
As we begin to address the reasons why the youth and human service profession is important, I would like to paint you a picture of the future of America. Unfortunately, it may sound as if I am a "purveyor of doom" I assure you, I am not. But a pervasive malaise and frightening apathy exists in this country as we regard the plight of our children. Unless we, the youth and human service professionals of this country, begin to re-prioritize and re-evaluate the value of our children, this country's most precious national resource, then all of us will be doomed and will face a very rude awakening!
