Abstract
Addressing the potential strengths of a diverse population in a democracy where citizens accept and practice equality of rights, opportunity, and treatment involves citizens in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo metropolitan area who value this definition of what a democracy should be.
The strengths of individuals, groups of individuals, and communities of individuals need to be identified. A long-range strategic plan to focus these strengths needs to be developed to best utilize these strengths to enhance the community environment. A long-range strategic plan of communication can be a vehicle for individuals, groups of individuals, and communities of individuals to develop in-depth relationships over time as a foundation for concerted action to work on areas of need and to celebrate the successes of their collective efforts. Isolated silos of communication do not foster effective communication over time.
