Abstract
As a banker for the last 20 years I have had the opportunity to study, analyze, and work with many businesses. These businesses are facing many of the same struggles schools face: how to be pro-active in our rapidly changing world and meet future customer needs more effectively. The "solution" for businesses and schools will undoubtedly be different. Yet I have found there is much about the process of change that is alike.
Abracadabra doesn't work. Change will not happen without both time and effort. There isn't a magic genie or fairy godmother to ensure all the necessary ingredients for a bright future. Systemic change is hard work involving difficult decisions, complicated communications, and ongoing efforts. It doesn't happen without the efforts of many people over an extended period of time.
