Abstract
Building trust and respect in schools and communities actually happens one person at a time. Diverse beliefs can be a barrier, but despite disagreements there are effective ways to work together or at least not to sabotage each others' efforts. The six principles for how leaders build trust, found in the book Credibility (Kouzes & Posner, 1993) provided the framework for my suggestions for fostering successful interactions.
