Abstract
Without choices, alternatives, and competition, I see in the future trend of education increased program and bureaucratic requirements and forced mergers of more and more small school districts. Those currently in political power see the big city model of education as the ideal. As schools get closer and closer to this big city model, I expect to see parents getting angrier and teachers increasingly refusing to send their own children to the schools in which they teach. Currently, 22% of National Education Association (NEA) members choose to put their child in a private school (The National Extortion Association, 1993). This is twice the national average.
