Abstract
School improvement efforts have taken many forms over the last several years. Some of these efforts have successfully in brought about real change in student learning. However, many more school reform efforts have been unsuccessful.
School-based shared decision-making is a school improvement method used successfully in many parts of the country. School-based decision-making refers to a philosophy adopted by schools or school districts to improve education by increasing the autonomy of the school staff to make school site decisions (White, 1988). School districts have experimented with this philosophy of management for over 20 years.
