Abstract
The greatest challenge to the reformation or transformation of our schools may be the successful implementation of school-based shared decision-making. As schools examine this school improvement process, administrators, staff, and parents realize that their roles and responsibilities are very different from what they have been over the past decades. This can create a great deal of dissonance within each of these groups; this discomfort can be a roadblock to school improvement. To prevent this barrier, training is needed that includes both knowledge of shared decision-making and processes for group work.
