Abstract
Student teaching experiences are generally believed to be the most valuable aspect of teacher preparation. However, satisfaction with the existing student teaching system probably shows that rest of teacher preparation is sorely lacking in application to the "real" world of teaching.
To eliminate the fragmentation between academic coursework and clinical experiences, I advocate a rebirth of the laboratory school concept. Whenever possible, a11 activities connected with teacher training should occur right in Pre-K-12 settings. Ideally, a teacher training institution would be surrounded by several school districts which are true laboratory settings with resident college faculty engaged in teaching.
