Abstract
Teacher education programs need significant modification. We are preparing teachers who are cognitively able to work in the classroom but who fall short when confronted with the affective demands of many of today's students. The new teachers I know have increasing difficulties building and nurturing the teacher/student bond, the cement in the foundation of the teaching and learning process. My conclusions are not drawn from a research model, rather, solely on my observations and non-empirical conclusions.
