Abstract
Using Good lad's Postulate Seven as the basic rationale for this position paper presents a major difficulty. The "concept of an educated person" (Goodlad, 1990, p. 286) is subject to such varied interpretations that it becomes problematic as a goal of teacher education. Certainly there is a belief that the goal of a college education is to acquire literacy abilities and critical thinking abilities associated with the concept of an educated person. This is in the tradition of a liberal arts education as opposed to a technical/ vocational education.
