Abstract
Faculty members in teacher education need to become exemplars in the instructional process. As suggested in national accreditation standards, instruction by faculty members should be congruent in content and process with the best practices established by research. Furthermore, the university as a whole should come to regard its teacher education unit as one in which instructional practice is consistently superior (Standards, Procedures and Policies for the Accreditation of Professional Education Units, cited in Roth, 1989).
