Abstract
This paper argues that effective teacher education programs have a distinctive paideia, or culture, which requires that a specially prepared academic and clinical faculty have responsibility for preparing future teachers. Following a brief background statement, the paper profiles those who are or should be teacher educators, proposes a changed "reward" system and calls for faculty accountability. Second, it reviews the specific tasks of tomorrow's teacher educators. Third, it summarizes areas of expertise that future teacher educators need to facilitate the changed curriculum.
