Focus Area One

Abstract

John Goodlad (1990) posits three bold Postulates (One, Two and Three) as the basis for his reform treatise in teacher education. The basic focus of this paper is Postulate One, as it sets the stage and the background for the development and implementation of Postulates Two and Three. Implementation of these corollary Postulates would elevate teacher education to parity with other campus programs and would serve as a basis for rewards for faculty geared to the nature of the field. It would also establish for teacher education the autonomous organizational identity, budget and decision-making authority similar to that enjoyed by other professional schools.
