Focus Area Three
Abstract
School health has historically dealt with routine issues such as immunizations: screening tests for vision, hearing, or growth; and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses. Additionally impacting on school programs and the lives of young people are issues such as drug and alcohol usage, nutrition, teenage pregnancy, access to adequate health care, and communicable disease. Implicit in each of these issues is the need for collaboration across agencies in identifying strategies to influence the lives and health of our young people. No one agency has either the human or fiscal resources to effectively meet the needs.
