Abstract

This paper reviews development of a database using historical data on gear and shaft heat treat distortion. The project was a joint activity of the University of Northern Iowa and John Deere Waterloo Works. Subsequent work included using the database to study relationships between steel parts' geometrical features and distortions due to heat treatment. This paper also reports on current related activities.
