Abstract
This essay explores how infusing critical media literacy into oral interpretation can connect performance studies' past with present practices and future goals. The author examines how oral interpretation is taught currently as well as the relationship between oral interpretation and critical media literacy to argue that framing oral interpretation as critical media literacy increases the course's academic and cultural capital while making space for digital performance in oral interpretation.
