Abstract

Several species of small mammals are not found in suitable habitats on broad flood-plains of the Mississippi River Valley. In the narrow up-stream flood-plains of the river valley of Northeastern Iowa, some species remain in the flooded area; others migrate out temporarily. Floods, in this case, have only a temporary effect on local populations.
