Abstract

Let me assure you there is a multitude of information and food for thought in this paper. I could have taken many routes in my response. Yes. we do need a common definition of youth development. Yes, we do need theory and a basis of knowledge about youth development - meeting the needs of youth and development of competencies. And yes, we do need good outcome evaluation. All of these are addressed well in this paper. However, I kept coming back to the statements regarding national youth organizations - the big 20, if you will. Since I represent one of those organizations, 4-H, I decided to place my focus there.
