Abstract

The University of Northern Iowa's Youth Leadership Studies program inaugurated a creative research and communications system for professionals in youth serving organizations with the 1990 National Youth Leadership Symposium. The Symposium is an annual working conference that focuses on solving practical problems for the emerging profession. The purpose of the Symposium is to serve as an agency of change by raising questions, examining circumstances, making decisions and taking actions that realize the common ground and agreement needed to contribute to the profession. It builds on the unique traditions, missions, and services of each youth organization, while cutting across the boundaries of divisions and differences that may limit efforts. The 1991 Symposium aggressively pursued these goals and purposes with the guiding theme: "Common Ground for Professional Development".
