Abstract
Envy often arises in the workplace with potentially negative consequences. Using affective events theory as a framework we examine the causes of malicious envy in the workplace and the communicative responses people have to experiencing the emotion. We discover seven major causes for malicious envy in the workplace and nine typical responses in the ways in which people in the workplace respond to their feelings of malicious envy.
