Abstract
This auto/ethnographic essay expands upon my imagination-intellect theory (See: Weems, 2003) by exploring the role of empathy in developing a social consciousness, which is its fifth component. In it, I describe my creative process and discuss the various degrees of empathy I've experienced. It includes three creative writings as exemplars of the kinds of empathy I continue to explore in my work and to facilitate with teacher education and other students at the university and k-12 level.
