Abstract

By explaining, applying and challenging four time-tested communication theories, including Albert Bandura's social learning theory, George Herbert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism, Fritz Heider's attribution theory, and Irwin Altman's and Dalmas Taylor's social penetration theory, the following research leads to an essentially pessimistic view of social networking relationships and the consequences of taking part in one.
