Abstract
Goal: To apply prominent interpersonal communication theories in experiential settings and to help students analyze and evaluate those theories based on the sorts of useful insights the theories provide (or don't provide) about their own experiences.
This activity is designed for college courses in communication theory or interpersonal communication. It has two goals: to apply prominent interpersonal communication theories in experiential settings and to help students analyze and evaluate those theories based on the sorts of useful insights the theories provide (or don't provide) about their own experiences. The activity works best if used after students have read some textbook-level writing (e.g., Cragan & Shields, 1998; Infante, Rancer & Womack, 1997; Littlejohn, 2002) and achieved comprehension-level understandings of the theories involved in the activity.
