Abstract
Originated in 17th and 18th century Europe, the concept of "public sphere" is currently in wide use throughout scholarship concerned with a variety of topics related to democratic practices in contemporary societies. The context in which contemporary public sphere is discussed is completely different from that two hundred years ago, we are bound to lose a lot if we do not re-conceptualize the "public sphere." The term "public sphere" can be highly relevant and useful today if we redefine this term and keep the definition open-ended. The purpose of this essay is to flush out this argument.
