Abstract
This study is an investigation of the speaking habits of some women in specific social situations. An ethnographic approach is used to detail and examine specific communication practices that some young women use to empower themselves. A new rhetorical genre is identified and labeled ditzy-speak. Contributions to the discipline of Communication include a fuller understanding of culture, power relations, rhetorical strategies, and gender.
