Abstract
As reporter, associate editor, editor, and publisher of the Atlanta Constitution from 1938 until his death in 1969, Ralph McGill wrote on subjects ranging from poker to poetry. He became best known, however, for his moderate stand on equal citizenship for southern African Americans. He disliked seeing powerful people exploit those who were defenseless, whether African American, artist, or member of the Ku Klux Klan.
