Abstract
With this issue, the Iowa Journal of Speech Communication introduces a new feature which will occasionally recur. The Forum will invite responses to appropriate articles from state and national experts on the issue. It will also instantiate, as well as print can, a scholarly value that goes back at least as far as Plato. It is, however, a value that may be threatened in the increasingly busy and product-oriented work that teacher-scholars do, from elementary schools on through doctoral studies: the value of continuing controversy and conversation.
