Abstract
During the Essential Undergraduate Curriculum Conference held at Hope College in 1985, the participants agreed that there are five core courses which should be required of all undergraduate communication majors: public speaking, interpersonal communication, small group communication, understanding mass media, and communication\rhetorical theory. The 1985 participants also endorsed the position that all communication majors should have an integrative senior seminar in the discipline, and decided that other questions regarding the content of each course and the level at which they should be offered would be addressed at a 1986 conference. The participants at the 1986 conference suggested both an introductory and advanced level theory course. The purpose of this piece is to comment on a model that was suggested for the advanced theory course which attempts to synthesize and expand the theory which should be taught collectively in all undergraduate courses.
