Abstract
We surveyed the speech and drama programs in Iowa secondary schools ten years ago in order to better understand the nature and scope of the discipline within our state.1 The questions which were important then remain relevant today. Educators and supervisors concerned with teacher training and the development and certification of future teachers need to know the status of the discipline in the secondary schools to more effectively prepare college students who will be student teaching and later looking for employment in Iowa. Teachers across the state continue to be interested in what other teachers and schools are doing in their curricular and cocurricular speech and theatre programs. We can more effectively make comparisons, evaluate our strengths and weaknesses, and make decisions about our own programs when this kind of data is available.
