Abstract
Within every group or organization, there comes a time when discussion and comparing alternatives ends and the focus shifts to the process of making decisions and dealing with conflict. Decision making and conflict management are integral parts of the group process - without these two factors, groups would have nothing to strive for or measure themselves against. They would stop growing and changing, instead resting on past accomplishments and using old, tired ideas to solve the problems they find themselves faced with. Many groups, however, fail to realize that inter-group conflicts and innovative decision making are vital to their continued growth and effectiveness. When decisions and problems are simply allowed to float or drift, a group can't help becoming stagnant and losing its effectiveness. A group can only maintain a high level of achievement and accomplishment through the continued use of competent conflict management and innovative decision making.
