Abstract
When observing secondary classroom activities and working with student teachers one technique that does not seem to be used to its potential is that of role-playing. The purpose of this paper is to define role-playing, offer suggestions for its implementation and suggest advantages of its use in the high school language arts classroom.
Role-playing can be defined as an exercise in which the student takes on the identity of another for the purpose of better understanding some literary, grammatical or communication concept. It is an activity which requires advance planning by the teacher but not necessarily by the student.
