Abstract
The dialect labeled "women's speech" has been categorized based on speech behaviors which suggest deference and verbal unassertiveness. Various behaviors including question tagging, empty adjectives, hyper-correct grammar, a tendency to listen rather than to talk and excessive apology are used to a greater extent by women than men.
